Rapala is still in business making artificial rattling lures and various salt and fresh water baits. The company website has a page devoted to Rapala lures history telling about how Finnish angler Lauri Rapala first observed that bait minnows that moved with a jerky, wiggling motion because they were wounded were the first to be attacked by predator species. He decided to make a lure that would move as if it were in trouble, and the Original Floating Rapala was born.
